Britain has signed an agreement to hand sovereignty of the contested Chagos Islands to Mauritius. The Indian Ocean archipelago is home to a strategically important naval base but the deal has been criticised by some residents, as well as London says the move is vital to British security but critics argue it puts Britain at risk of foreign interference by foreign powers such as Russia or China.
