The Trump administration insists it is effectively at war with alleged "narco-terrorists," amid mounting fears of US military action. "The laws of war don't actually apply here, because the United States is not at war with drug dealers," explains former New York Assistant Attorney General Reed Brody. Mr. Brody is currently an ICJ Commissioner, Human Rights Lawyer, War Crimes Prosecutor, and Author of 'To Catch a Dictator'. "And even if we were at war, people on these boats are civilians," Mr. Brody warns that it is a crime under international law to target civilians. Mr Brody also makes the case that Venezuela accounts for just a small fraction of drugs smuggled into the US. But what's even more telling: "Trump pardoned the former Honduran president, Juan Orlando Hernandez, serving a 45-year sentence for running a major cocaine network."
